Oh hot damn. So I have some pretty awesome news. Or, at least I think it's pretty awesome.

I am in possession of a completed first draft of an original novel.

I have a nasty habit of never finishing things. Or at least, taking forever and nine years to finish things, which is almost just as bad. But I HAVE SOMETHING. Something that starts. Has a plot. Then ends. But what is silly about it is that it has been finished for like... four years.

I finished it forever ago. Thought it was useless. Tossed it aside. And then about five computer crashes later, it just seemed to get further and further buried away until I quite literally forgot I had even written the damn thing. And then a few days ago, I happen upon a disk jammed full of old documents and BAM. There it was.

Now, I cannot lie. Pieces of this bad boy are embarrassingly terrible. Every character's name is like, a super weeaboo name that I am so embarrassed to have given all of them that I have erased them all, replaced them with temp names while I give myself time to properly go through the process of changing. The writing needs some serious help. The characters could use a little further development. The setting could be a little richer. But all in all, I rather like the story. It's a pretty simple one, which is... well it is something that I have a problem doing. I can never keep things simple.

Mostly, I just want to polish it up. Make it into something that I can be like "damn straight I wrote this!", package it up and see what I can do with it.  I mean, I HAVE it. It's just sitting here. I may as well, right?

Right now, I'm in the process of renaming - which is really kind of fun. Everyone is getting named after stars. (like, the ones in the night sky not actors or anything) Usually stars that are in constellations significant to their character. And also... they have to be Arabic names. Or Arabic-derived. For instance, my main female character is now named Zaniah; she is named after a star in the constellation Virgo as it is relevant to the story that her character is a virgin.  And yeah... everyone gets names like that. I'm almost halfway done with them.  I am also naming my lead male Altiar, and no it is not after the character in Assassin's Creed. It's a star and I have my reasons.

As soon as that is done, then we're going to start combing through the story and editing it. Cleaning it up. Fleshing out characters a little more. Things like that.

Also, its setting, though it was never explicitly stated to be in the middle-east, (though, fuck... you wouldn't think so by the goodamn names I gave them the first time around) that was the sort of vibe I was getting during my read-through. But it also has a little bit of a magical/fantasy aspect to it. And for a brief moment, I was going to go the cheap/easy/typical route and be like "I'll just change it to medieval-like settings and give everyone medieval names!" But then I realized that was really lame of me. And so I'm going to sort of run with the middle-eastern thing I have going, and expand on it further. It's all fictional anyway, which will allow me to pull for multiple influences, i.e. ancient Babylon, Arabia, Mesopotamia, Egypt. Something a little different from my norm. And I feel, the norm in general. I might be wrong, but I don't feel lots of fantasy novels are set in middle-eastern-like settings. Usually they're pretty western-European-like.

And also! Not that a word count is important... but they say that the word count you should shoot for, is the word count that tells the whole story. But then again, they also say that a publisher is way more likely to look at story that is 80,000-100,000 words; anything under 55,000 gets tossed in the kiddy section, and anything above the 250,000+ mark hardly even gets glanced at. At least for people who haven't been published before. Currently, this one sits at 61,147 words (220 pages). But while reading through it there were a lot of things that I wish I would have expanded on. Certainly enough expansion to push me into the 80,000 word area, I feel.

It'll be a lot of work. But also... it is a part of the process that I haven't really gotten to delve into yet - editing and making necessary changes. And I'm actually really glad that it worked out this way - with a story that I have had so much disconnect from. I've had time to de-attach myself from it that I have a fresh perspective on it all. I can say easily this is what I like and this is what i don't like and this is what works and this is what doesn't from an almost fresh point of view. While reading through it the past few nights there were a lot of those moments. And I think that is... good. If that makes any sort of sense at all.

Oh damn. This turned out to be a longer little ramble than I had planned for. Sorry about that. I'll be done now.  *wanders off*

**Please keep in mind that this has not been edited whatsoever, as this is the super-rough first draft and I do that later. If you spot errors or things that don't make sense, feel free to let me know about them as you like -- I fear that this chapter has a ghastly amount of inconsistencies, unfortunately. Feedback is always welcomed. Please enjoy!

Oh, the wonders of the internet.

It's private, because it's for me, and I don't think anyone really cares... except me. But if you do by chance...well, there you have it!

Chapters 1 - 6 now connect entirely. Writing in segments is sometimes the bane of my existence. But then again, I think it forces me to be consistent. If I write Part A and Part C, before connecting them with Part B, well... it forces me to keep Part B on track. I-I have a nasty habit of changing directions.

The first six chapters are almost 90 pages worth of material. Go team.

I'm also a little sad that Dorian is no longer a central character in the story. He leaves at the beginning of chapter seven to go back home. BUT, now it's all about Maxim.

I am also starting to believe that this is going to either be multiple books, or just one really long one. A hundred pages in, and she's not talked to the Judges yet, hasn't signed up to start school. Landon and Case haven't been so much as hinted at yet, let alone introduced.

Yeah. There's a lot of ground to cover.

D: I have no idea what I would call further volumes though. Crap.

I love doing these, actually. ;D This one I wanted to do because I ended up losing a lot of info on these guys during my recent computer mishap, and thought I would try and get some of that back. So... here we go!

As usual, this is not to be taken completely seriously, but as more of an aide I've decided to come up with a cast list of actors I think would be well-suited to play the parts of this story's characters.

Why only Water Air and Earth? Because Adam's Fire Guardian was Arias, who is listed with the main protagonists in a separate post.
